Welcome!

Thank you for taking the time to visit SHINE. This little online boutique is one where I hope you find something truly enjoyable and one where you can feel good about helping others through your purchase.

For years I have worked as a mental health professional with people of all ages and backgrounds, feeling compelled to create tangible items to remind them of the hope they can have and inspire them to share that hope with others. Using an empathy for the pains that come with the human experience and my creative process…SHINE was born. I began this one-woman operation with the support of my wonderful, forbearing husband and canine-sidekick Birdie with the mission to SHINE and share my own light in this new way.

SHINE is based in the Pacific Northwest, a place of liquid sunshine and rugged beauty. As a human and a therapist, I am all too familiar with the challenges, struggles, and sometimes all-out battle with the kind of darkness that can develop or the brokenness that can happen suddenly in a person’s life. But broken pieces have the potential to be mended back together, and it’s because of the darkness that we know what light is.

The concept of mending something broken into something more beautiful than before is known as Kintsugi or “golden repair.” This Japanese art form involves repairing broken glass or porcelain by mending the broken places with gold. The philosophy is that breakage and repair are part of the beautiful history of an object rather than something ugly to disguise.

SHINE exists as a reflection of this philosophy…the light in the darkness, and the beauty in the brokenness. Each SHINE item has been carefully and thoughtfully created for you to enjoy and be reminded of the beautiful light you can SHINE to others. And you can feel good about your purchase knowing that a portion of all SHINE proceeds go toward supporting the aftercare needs of human trafficking survivors. Whatever your story might be, whatever experiences you may have, my hope is that you find your SHINE… that you may know true hope and healing throughout your life’s journey, as you SHINE like a light in the darkness and inspire others to do the same.

SHINE on!
